Loss

None so hurt as much as I
When deaths icy gaze cast upon you
This river of tears may never run dry
On which sullen swans mourn with me too

As leafless trees do long their loss
Such lifeless greenery on sodden ground
When life bound the two of us so close
Then natures scythe strikes without sound

No hand to hold on summer days
No tear to wipe from windswept eye
Nor look upon in distant gaze
And ask oneself how lucky am I

The years retract their long given gift
They gave so proudly then
Through sands of time I’d gladly sift
To find you once again

No search could ever bring you back
With wealth of time to spend
I’d look along each lonely track
Until my days came to an end

These roads of life all end its true
Though the length of each unclear
I pray my path ends close by you
Then again I’ll have you near
